Taking a trip to Lovers Key State Park is certain to be a great experience. The park is a total of 712 acres and consists of four barrier islands, canals, and tidal lagoons. There is a great deal of wildlife there, including dolphins, manatees, and exotic birds. Lovers Key is known as the main barrier island with the other three being Black Island, Long Key, and Inner Key.
Prior to 1965, the island was only accessible by boat but today is accessible by road as well. The island was a popular destination for couples and this is what led to its namesake.
