When you get to Lovers Key, hop on the free tram down to the beach. The tram will drop you off at south beach where the beautiful gazebo offers picnic table under the shade and Hurricane Charlie’s offers the best food on the beach. Cheeseburgers, hot dogs, and Blue Bunny Ice cream are the specialties at the beach side concession stand. Enjoy lunch on the picnic tables shaded with umbrellas that overlook the waves crashing onto the sand. Hurricane Charlie’s offer beach lounges, umbrellas, paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes.
Lovers Key is a 2.5 mile stretch of beautiful beach along the shore of the Gulf of Mexico that is known for among many thing the best place to find shells in Southwest Florida. From the North beach where Estero Bay and the Gulf of Mexico meet at Big Carlos pass all the way to the southernmost tip of Lovers key, shells are abundant. The locals love coming to Lovers Key and searching for the elusive shells they have been searching for. Starting in June of 2014 Lovers Key will be receiving a beach re-nourishment that will add a significant amount of sand and beach to the already beautiful shore line.
